Individual Therapy

Individual Therapy

Psychotherapy helps you deal with personal struggles including vulnerable emotions, relationship issues and problematic behaviours. Individual therapy provides opportunities to speak confidentially to your therapist about personal issues that affect you, in a safe and supportive therapeutic environment. Your relationship with your therapist is a helpful resource to address a broad range of concerns you want to address. Individual therapy is helpful for those seeking personal growth, self-understanding, and solutions to difficult problems.

Individual Therapy for Adults

We believe that a genuine, caring, and empathic therapeutic relationship, is essential to effective psychotherapy. We believe that the best outcomes in therapy are achieved by working together with people to address personal concerns and designing treatments that best fit the individual. We work with adults of all ages, providing treatment and other supports for a range of mental health difficulties, traumas, relationship challenges, and life stressors/transitions.

Individual therapy begins with an assessment that supports a personalized treatment plan. Your treatment plan will be established collaboratively with your therapist. We offer several evidence-based treatments that are proven to work including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and mindfulness and self-compassion based approaches..

Commonly addressed issues include:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder
  • Eating disorders
  • Borderline personality disorder
  • Trauma
  • Addictions
  • Relationship issues
  • Grief, loss, and facing dying and death
  • Chronic pain or illness

People can also use individual therapy when adjusting to life changes or when striving for personal growth and development.

Individual Therapy for Children and Adolescent

Treatment for children and adolescents builds on the strengths of each person. Reaching positive outcomes often involves a working relationship with family members. A team approach is especially important with younger children. We seek a family’s partnership in finding ways to effectively address children’s concerns.

Children who can benefit from therapy are offered art therapy as a modality. Assisted by the art therapist, children use art materials to explore and creatively express their thoughts and feelings. The therapist supports a process that allows the child to share their conflicts, thereby improving their emotional well-being. Art is a natural language for children and helps them make sense of, and express, their thoughts and feelings. This leads to improved resiliency and coping skills.

Adolescence is a developmental stage that can be intense and overwhelming to navigate. The rapid pace of change for teenagers in their cognitive, physical, emotional and social development can be challenging. Therapy with young and older teens balances their emerging sense of independence with their need to feel supported and understood.

Our work with children and adolescents provides collaborative and compassionate assessment and psychotherapy to promote resiliency, effective coping strategies and healthy growth. CMBH is a nurturing and welcoming environment for children and teens to explore their concerns and have a positive treatment experience.
