Why CMBH?

Our clinical team is carefully chosen, it’s a dream come true.

  • A supportive community of practice is our beacon where psychotherapy skills are constantly honed. We care about each other, we’re generous, funny, warm, and encouraging.
  • We work in a beautifully renovated mid-town Toronto clinic that welcomes you and your clients. It evokes calm and wellness. It’s a lovely place to spend your workday.

Teaching and learning are as important as clinical services…

  • Individual and group supervision and DBT/EFT Consultation Teams with experts in the field are regular, supportive and exceptional learning forums. On-site training, workshops and professional development opportunities are core components of our clinic. We invest big-time in our learning.
  • Shelley received intensive training with Dr. Marsha Linehan. She is the first Canadian practitioner certified by the DBT-Linehan Board of Certification as a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) individual and group therapist. She currently serves on the DBT Strategic Planning Committee of the Linehan Institute, is Clinic Head of the Borderline Personality Disorder Clinic at the Centre for Addictions and Mental Health (CAMH) and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto.
  • Shari is a certified Emotion-Focused (EFT) therapist, supervisor and trainer. She has a long-time mentoring and co-author relationship with Leslie Greenberg which contributes to knowledge in EFT. She is an international trainer and expert in the art and science of Therapeutic Presence (TP), focusing on creating effective and meaningful therapeutic relationships. She has authored seminal books and several publications on cultivating therapeutic presence. She is also a certified Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) teacher and currently co-editing a book on Self-Compassion in Psychotherapy.

Clinical food for thought…

  • We specialize in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Mindfulness and Self-Compassion. If you work within these treatment frameworks, you’ll love our attention to detail and our commitment to learning.
  • We gather monthly for a lunch and learn. We like to grow and have fun together.
  • We also have weekly mindfulness and monthly self-compassion gatherings for our clinicians.
  • We have retreats and social gatherings to promote wellness and deepen our connections with each other.
  • We care about and do research. We study and constantly develop our work. We write about it and we’re eager to contribute to shared clinical improvements.
  • If you want to learn a lot about DBT, EFT and Mindful Self-Compassion (even if you already know a lot), we are a great place to do it.
  • If you want to become an outstanding group leader and/or DBT or EFT therapist, we’re a great place to do that as well.
  • Once you’re a member of our team, we go overboard in making you a part of our CMBH family.

If this feels like a spot-on description of what you’re looking for in your professional life, please be in touch. Send us a brief letter and resume outlining your experience and clinical interests; please highlight your experience and training in DBT, EFT, Self-Compassion and Mindfulness approaches. Our therapists are all experts in one or more of these treatment models.
