Project Description

Dr. Shelley McMain is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. She is also the Head of the Borderline Personality Disorder Clinic and a Clinician Scientist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). She is a Certified DBT Therapist and has extensive training in other evidence-based approaches including CBT and EFT. Widely recognized as an international leader in DBT practice and research, she has worked for over twenty years with individuals with emotion regulation difficulties. Shelley is currently President-Elect of the North American Society for Psychotherapy Research and Past Co-Chair of the International Society for Psychotherapy Integration. She currently serves on the boards of the International Society for Personality Disorder and  the  International Society for Psychotherapy Integration as well as the Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Strategic Planning Meeting Steering Committee and the Scientific Advisory Board of the Linehan Institute. Dr. McMain is an international researcher and expert in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and has authored and co-authored publications on Borderline Personality Disorder and on Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. She is frequently invited to give presentations on DBT throughout Canada and internationally. Shelley consults extensively for various health care organizations and clinical practitioners on the implementation of DBT.
